• Playing with LLMs for funs and giggles

In order to acquaint myself a bit more with generative AI, I decided to write a small chat bot that would be able to answer questions regarding me and my CV using RAG — the idea being that I might send it along with my motivation letter/CV if I apply for a position in that area. (Spoiler alert: for now it doesn’t seem sufficiently useful to show it to anyone whom I’d like to impress :) ).

  • Setting up a new blog on uberspace using jekyll

As is my (very infrequent) habit, I’m in the process of starting a blog to play with various web technologies, but also so I have a slightly more organised archive of my notes. Currently I put records of my projects into various note taking applications, but my thought is that I’ll be a bit more verbose (and clear) if I publish them here. It’ll be a somewhat slow process getting them cleaned up, so over the next few weeks or months there might be backdated posts appearing on this site.

  • Setting up my shiny new AMD Framework laptop

Sometime late last year I received my new Framework laptop (the AMD version). My first impressions are very positive, it’s a very nicely built piece of hardware and assembly worked without a hitch. I had bought my own memory and SSD as the prices were much better on the open market due to the crash of semiconductor prices over the first part of 2023.

  • Making my audio system smart(er)

So lately we’ve been forgetting to switch off our amplifier after listening to music and it’s been bothering me, given that that thing isn’t the most energy efficient device in our house and also doesn’t really know the concept of a “standby mode” (it’s a NAD C300, for those curious). We feed it audio from three sources:

    • a CD player
    • a record player
    • a Bluesound Node streamer (which itself has a Chromecast Audio connected to it’s digital input to make the situation at the amp more tractable)
